jaytee
I have an 1983 gl (ea81/4speed tranny) and was wondering if the 5 speed tranny from an 1989 (ea82) would fit? I know about the normal modifications for a 5 speed swap. I was mostly wondering if the year difference would affect the swap...
DagdaS
Not 100% sure myself, but I believe so. I have an EJ22 out of a 93 Legacy, with a Dual Range 5 speed out of an EA82 car. One would Think that, with a few mods, it could work.

Just an adapter spacer, your choice of clutch pairings, a modified length tailshaft, and gearbox support modifications, as well as getting the gear shift up through the floor pan. skishop69
Uhhhh..... No. No adapter/spacer. It bolts right up. Cross member and shifter linkages need to be modified as well as the driveline.
jaytee
Sweet! Thanks, that's all I really needed to know. I'll just follow the other 5 speed swap guides for the rest of the info.

Hmm ... So a 5 speed EA82 trany bolts straight onto an ea81 engine -- good to know..
