Flat4Power
Where do I get good pistons for my ej22 rebuild project?
Flat4Power
I'm still wondering about this actually. There are small scuffs on the tops side of the piston skirt but other then that they seem to be fine. Should I bother replacing them? Cylinders look like new.... 86BRATMAN
I've not seen any stock replacement phase 2 ej22 pistons on the market. Only thing available is oem, and they are not cheap. The rings for those pistons are also only available from the dealer.
ccrinc
They're all over ebay. Also, NPR is the co. which makes them for Subaru. We've always used them and they are top quality. OTOH, Mahle brand make our head builder just go nuts: they're impossible to work with. However, with your description, I'd just re-use them. Put them back in the cylinders they were in originally. 86BRATMAN
Phase 2 ej222's don't use the same pistons or rings as the 90-98 ej22e. 99-01 ej22 rings are 1.2mm/1.2mm/2.5mm, 90-98 ej22 rings are 1.2mm/1.5mm/3mm.
Flat4Power
Thank you. I'll just give the dealer a call and see how much...the prive is probably gonna blow my mind isn't it...?
ccrinc
Rings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Piston-Ring-Set-DNJ-PR719-fits-99-01-Subaru-Impreza-2-2L-H4-/161806428020?fits=Make%3ASubaru&hash=item25ac6a2774:g:5oQAAOSwjVVV3geL&vxp=mtr Seriously, from your description, there is no reason not to re-use the pistons. Flat4Power
I agree, I meant to say just for the rings. I called today....$270 Canadian for a set of rings yikes.
ccrinc
Yeah, dealer is NOT the place to buy rings. That blue and white box equal about a 1000 % markup. Try an import store, or ebay. Emily
Fairtax4me
NPR rings on eBay are like $50. Only place I would consider pistons other than the dealer would be a custom order from one of the performance piston makers like Wiseco. Gonna spend a big chunk more for those than getting new from a dealer. The cheaper ones are a crap-shoot.
