whynot
I was changing the rear control arm bushing and cross threaded one of the bolts. I got it out, and the nut is still solid. Can I tap the nut and replace the bolt? What is the thread of the bolt if anyone knows? Thanks
kamesama980
Is this a loose nut or a captive nut? If it's a loose nut, replace it. if it's captive you could tap it but keep in mind it'll be much weaker than before.
Fairtax4me
That one should be M14x1.5 or 1.75. Try finding another bolt and cut 2 notches in the threads on the end with a dremel. That may clean out the threads well enough to get the bolt through all the way. Put some blue locktite on it and tighten it to about 100 ft lbs. Torque spec on those is crazy high, like 180.
whynot
Thanks, It is the captive nut, I got a tap (right size, thanks) and cleaned the thread out, a replacement bolt and now back together.
