SuperRallyRoo
Ok after 1 year and 2 months of tinkering engine swaps and problems my now unturboed wagon runs like a champ. Idles at 700rpm, goes quicker then it did when it was turbo! I was having major fuel pump issues and I got that all figured out, I have no return line anymore and the pump will stop when its at pressure. It doesn't make any weird noises anymore and all it does is go mmmm click mmmm click every few seconds. Now to see if it will pass emissions haha I'm gonna take it to the emissions dude to make sure it will pass. I'm sure it will the exhaust smells like a hair dryer being blown in your face. WoodsWagon
You might want to retubo it if you still can, sounds like you've got all the engine issues worked out, so why don't you squeeze the performance back out of it?
SuperRallyRoo
I already said its FASTER now then it was when it was turbo! Its got the 5spd d/r, accell super coil, new plugs, wires, new alt, new oil just lots of new * and less miles then the turbo engine had. I would never think of going BACK to turbo. I may ej22 it though! I'm working on a super charger idea.

WoodsWagon
How could an engine that is now 20hp less be faster? The turbo engine must have been running at half efficiency. They didn't put turbos on the engines just for looks.

They didn't put turbos on the engines just for looks. The main reason he wont 'Un-un-turbo' it is because its not that he pulled the turbocharger OFF the EA81T - He replaced the EA81T with a N/A EA81. And adding a turbo to an N/A EA81 isn't exactly worth it from what I've heard. Running at its top - Yes, the turbo-motor would be faster..... but the reason the problems were able to be sorted out was because the whole system was made simpler. My analogy: Theres a good chance a naturally aspirated EA-81 subaru is faster than a jaguar of the same vintage... Cars that don't run don't go fast. (I know, am I a philospher or what!) :-p PS: Matt - Glad to hear you got'er going good and strong, should be a blast to drive with a 5spd and those little 13's, have fun with it. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
