SubeeTed
My CEL just came on this AM. I haven't had a chance to get it looked at yet ! I have a 2005 Legacy WGN. This year Subee is new to me ! I have a buddy with the same basic car and year an Outback. He's had the Catalytic code go off several times. When this code goes off for him, the green cruise light blinks, and cruise doesn't work ! My question is on the 2005 Legacy does the cruise light blinking happen with ALL CEL. Or is just for the catalytic problem ? So I'll assume it's the CAT code.....what are people doing to repair the situation ? Go to the dreaded Subee dealer and pay $1,000 ?? Will it come the a warrantee 100 K miles ?? Are there any aftermarket CAT systems that work for more than a year ?? What's the thing to do ?? Many thanks, Ted
Fairtax4me
Could be a cat code but you'll have to get it read to know for sure. Yes, the cruise light will blink any time the CEL comes on, regardless of which codes are set. Edited June 10, 2016 by Fairtax4me
SubeeTed
Thanks for the info ....I can breathe a little easier through the weekend till I get the code checked out !
brus brother
I have a 2005 OB and since 105,000 miles (currently at 165,000) I started with the P0420 cat efficiency below threshold. Replaced the front and rear O2 sensors on the passenger side with no positive outcome. There are a total of three cats and five sensors on my 05. Brilliant! I bought a cheapo code reader/eraser for $19 on ebay and clear the codes and allow the systems to reset every two years for CT inspections. I think I've done that dance four times so far. I have become accustomed to the flashing lights. Initially, I used black electrical tape to hide them for a while but took it off for inspection and never replaced the tape.. The cruise is deactivated with a CEL but I don't use cruise so not a loss for me. I priced Eastern catalytic for a replacement at around $125 but probably only good for a year or two. Will change it out when I am ready to sell.
SubeeTed
CEL is GONE ! Well... got coffee for the crew this AM, came back to my car....started it up, and there goes the CEL, gone ! Have absolutely no reason why ! When it did go on the other day, I was on a dirt road that was kind of rough, I'm thinking maybe I kicked up a rock or something ! Any CEL is gone, flashing cruise control light s also gone AND does work ! Thanks everyone anyhow !! SubeeTed
Numbchux
Yes, cruise is disabled on those with any CEL. Read the code, on those it doesn't even require a scanner: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/99-do-yourself-illustrated-guides/19053-06-09-how-read-diagnostic-trouble-codes-dtcs.html
Fairtax4me
Cel will turn off after a few key cycles if the conditions that set the code don't re-occur during that time. The number of cycles can vary depending on the severity of the code. Fewer cycles, lower severity. The code is still stored in the ECU. Get it read so you know what it is. It's not smart to ignore a problem even if its intermittent.
Stevo F
Could have been nothing more than a loose gas cap. My wife has apparently set that code off on my 2014 Impreza again. If it's a continuing problem, it will return. Mostly likely culprit are O2 sensors or problems with the hoses going to the evap canister (has these 2 CEL's on my 2005 Impreza)
brus brother
+ on the wife / gas cap loose. in fact, when I opened the filler door, the cap fell out!
SubeeTed
So my CEL came back on ! I just got a cheapo OBD II scanner from FEEbay ! It says, not what I wanted to see that my catalytic converter isn't doing well ! I'm going to try some of that miracle in a can Catacleaner ! I've heard it might work. My inspection is in Nov. I have time to play ! If that doesn't seem to work, I'm going to replace both my upstream 02 sensors. From what I'm seeing DENSO is the OEM manufacturer ? Is this true ? Anyhow...anybody have a part # ? My VIN is 4S3BP616657307620. Are ALL the o2 sensors the part # ? They sell DENSO 02 sensors on Amazon and they are cheap ! My car is running well, I just my gas mileage all the time. It just went up because it's the summer fuel mix. I just changed my oil after 5K miles, I only burned 1/2 quart. I have a 2005 Legacy Wgn. THANKS !! SubeeTed
