1 Lucky Texan
about 3 times now I have noticed an odd thing leaving for work in the morning. The right side headlight does not come on (drl) when I release the handbrake. One day, it stayed off for my entire 11 miles trip, another day it had a delay of about 1 or 2 seconds, then came on. This morning, it came on when I revved to leave my driveway (I have to reverse up an incline). This morning I was also able to confirm that the high beams work OK when this is happening. Also, the symptom persists if I use the stalk to switch on the low beams. When the light is off - no manipulation of handbrake or switches would make it illuminate. The problem 'seems' to be getting more common but - I have only seen it happen 3-4 times. I think i recently read that the 2 'sides' of the system may have different relays? maybe I could swap them? Fairtax4me
Check the connector on the bulb first. Have had similar random on/off from the head lights on both of my cars and it's been due to corrosion/poor connection in the connectors. Use some electric contact cleaner to clean them really well and spray them out with compressed air. Then apply anti-corrosive or silicone di-electric grease to the terminals. Never hurts to change the bulbs either if you know they're a few years old, or if you've never changed them.
1 Lucky Texan
all I've done on this continuing problem so far is swap relays (today, I was checking the oil anyway)) I must say, the pins/blades on the relays were corrosion free and looked new! 1 Lucky Texan
well, looking more like a bad bulb or wiring issue now - problem didn't follow the relay. I might spring for LEDs if I can find some assurance the DRLs will work.
1 Lucky Texan
man - just doesn't seem like a bulb - more like an intermittent 'module' /relay ,but - has to be common to the stalk switch and the P-brake handle. The other day I could almost use the P-brake to send light the right side every alternate time I dropped it - when the light is off, it's off - when on, it seems as bright as the left side. No reduced glow or flickering. This morning - both on and repeated activation of the P-brake never turned the right-side off. They both stayed in sync. I'm gonna try to get under the hood at the bulbs at break this morning - maybe I'll spot something with the wiring......kinda reluctant to handle the bulbs and swap sides but it seems like it may be the next step. 1 Lucky Texan
no misbehavior so, it's kinda low priority right now. I did find an H7LL bulb at Amazon - supposedly long life and built to heavy duty specs. If this seems like a bulb issue, I may get those. I rarely drive my WRX at night, so, not really worth short lifespan for more output.
