Sapper 157
What is the trick to getting the rear main seal into an EA81? My engine is out right now and my rear main had a slow leak so I tried replacing it with a Fel-Pro seal and ended up ruining the new seal trying to get it in. How the Sam Hill do I get it in flush with the bell housing without ruining the seal? any special tricks? I have another one on the way and this time I am not going to ruin it. I watched one youtube video where the guys put grease on the seal and then slid it in (it was on an EJ25 though...) should I do something like that? I was under the impression these seals were supposed to be installed dry. Any help is much appreciated.

rdweninger
In addition to freezing, I would put a light coating of white lithium grease on seal and mating surface.
