carfreak85
A 79 DL 4wd wagon with some rust repair, most rust not fixed. Not much in the way of cancer, but enough rust to take a second look at. Missing cowl and mismatched panels. The tranny is locked, so it needs to be replaced, I have a spare tranny so thats not a problem. The car has 133K or 233K, can't be sure, but it looks like the higher number. I'll try to get pics up soon, but so far, what is a good price? The owners left the car in a parking lot because of the tranny and left a note on the dash stating that they were trying to get a tow dolly. I left my number and they called me, so things seem to be swinging in my favor.
Sweet82
Offer them $50 and you'll tow it! I wouldn't pay more that $100. Sounds like you could take care of it's problems easily but the owner may not have that ability. Start low and see what happens?
carfreak85
Thats what I was thinking of offering, but I just wanted to check in with you guys. Any other Ideas? What other problems should I look for on these old cars? What usually breaks/wears out on them?
Dr. RX
Heck he should pay you for even wanting it.
moosens
Galen,I see your post now.LOL Same as Corky, ask them if they would let it go to someone who really wants to get it back on the road. There's plenty of good reasons why they should just let it go. $50 tops if you get a little weak in the knees. carfreak85
Could you give me some ammo to use about getting it free? I can offer to tow it away if they give it to me, but what else can I say?

Sweet82
I purchased a car out of a shopping center parking lot once..... It had a blown motor (cracked head) and they had just put new tires on it. I purchased the car for the price of the tires ($100) everyone was happy. Used the car for 5 years and sold it for $500. Are the tires good? Just a thought? s'ko
Don't be too anxious. Let the guy call you. Give him the attitude that you are helping him out for even contacting him in the first place. That should help you in getting it for next to nothing
moosens
Some ideas: "Well,my grandmother had one just like this and she used to bring us to go get ice cream in it..........I'd just like to get one if I can find one free, just to show her. It'd make her so happy." "I'd really like one of these but I can't afford to pay much of anything because I know these cars always need axles and exhausts, etc. My (dad/mom/whoever) had one and it was great but it needed all sorts of stuff to keep it running." And there's always..."You need that thing gone or what buddy?"But that's an east coast thing, might not work out there. Good luck G-man
