djehrenr
Purchased a 2005 Outback last year and been fixing things mostly myself as they spring up. But, now have a new issue that I'm trying to track down involving a gas leak. Found this forum/community and have come for help.
idosubaru
In engine bay tighten hose clamp. But I think this usually a 6 cylinder issue. Rear fuel filler rusty - replace it. Rear gas lines leaking - repair. The last two are rust driven, vehicles in the rust belt are prone to them. All three are in distinctly different places on the car. djehrenr
Thanks for the replay! Sorry not to give more detail earlier, wasn't sure if this thread was appropriate. The leak is near the rear passenger tire. Not sure if the missing bolt broke off from rust or if it wasn't replaced once upon a repair. I couldn't really see exactly what was leaking, going to jack car up this afternoon to get a better look. idosubaru
Rear passenger is usually the fuel filler neck, they rust out in the northeast. Could also be a metal line rusting through. Those are annoying. Edited August 10, 2016 by grossgary
djehrenr
Thanks! The fill neck makes sense, as I was generally smelling gas after filling up.
Olnick
Welcome to the USMB, djehrenr--you've found a great place here! Actually technical discussions should be in the Newer Generations forum, but as you can see, folks are anxious to offer help!
