tennsubaru
Hi I've got a 91 Loyale 5 speed 4wd that has been making a slight clicking sound when turning. Thought it was just a CV joint maybe. Took off the front wheel and put it up on blocks. When I put it in gear only the front left axle moves no matter which way you turn the wheel! The right axle isn't moving at all even right where it comes out of the transmission! Could I just throw a new right axle in there? Maybe the splines are stripped? Help! I need this beast running to get to school. Thanks, Bobby
robm
Probably nothing to worry about. An open differential will do this, even if the resistance on one side is quite small, it sends the power/motion to the other wheel. A bad CV joint might be all it takes. Try blocking the wheel that normally moves, and see if that makes the other one rotate.
DaveT
If you have both front wheels off the ground, put it in 1st. No parking brake, engine off. Turn one wheel, see the other turn opposite direction. This would be normal. Clicking when turning usually is a bad out cvj.
scoobiedubie
Could be the bearing on the right side, just inside the transmission housing. It could provide just enough resistance to cause the symptom that you describe.
