vwbuge
Does any other motor swap readily in place of the ea81? I have heard of some swaps. Just don't want to go wild replacing the tranny or anything. Any newer motor bolt right up to the stock tranny? '86 Brat
the sucker king
the only straight-ish would be an ea71 (1600cc), i think. and there would be bell housing issues in that you would need a ea71 bellhousing from a post 84? ea71 engine.
AKIRA
ea82 fit and bolt up to the transmission, but you will have do deal with wiring
archemitis
ea82, there is no wiring to do, other than lengthening a couple. all the guages, work like stock, with the ea82 stuff. thats the easiest hp upgrade. get the spfi block, because it has high compression. you can use your ea81 intake and make it reel easy, or swap on the larger ea82, with the carb. fun fun, fits toghether with no problems. if your car already has the large flywheel, it will bolt right on to the tranny, with some driling of bolts, or you can use the big ea82 flywheel. MilesFox
a carbureted ea82 will fit the same. use all the ancillaries from the ea82. i had an ea81 motor in an ea82 car, with ea82 water pump and ac/alt. so i would assume all the ea81 stuff will fit the ea82 motor the same. remove the distributor to drop the motor in to clear the master cyl, them put it back in

desertsubaru
What kind of mods did you have to do to put EA81 engine in EA 82 car?
MilesFox
i had to take the ea82's pitch bar mount and put it on the ea81 block. all the major mounting holes for the bracketry will match either way
