06 Outback Auto Transmission leak after install

Recommended Posts

I just R and R my motor and tranny on a project Subie Outback I purchased.  After I got it running, the transmission is leaking out the front of the bell housing.  I suspect front seal that I replaced.  Any ideas before I pull this tranny out again to put a new seal in.  Possible other leak points to check in this area?

Ultimately, I purchased an OEM seal from the dealer.  It was the only one that fit in the housing "properly".   Apparently it was still a bit tight as I did not get it seated in the space well.  I just don't know if I should remove the engine or the transmission to get this work done.  It is almost a toss on work load.  I looked at the bell housing just behind the Flywheel and saw the fluid coming out over the edge of the bell housing.  I have to assume it is the seal.

Make sure the shaft is lubed just a little so the seal doesn't roll. Make sure you don't push it in too far. And make sure it goes in flat and not crooked.

Otherwise. I'm sure something minor happened. Just redo it and im sure you'll be fine
