tappermanor
Hi Guys,Pulling an engine from an 03 Forester with MT. Getting close....I'm trying to to take out the torque converter bolts. The FSM and othersources indicate indicate you do this by removing rubber cover under theintake. It also says there are 4 12mm bolts to remove. What I find is 8(or 9) bolts that are star shape. What gives?I removed the starter and I see normal bolts there?Any help is appreciated.BTW... first time I have pulled an engine if it wasn't obvious.Tap
AdventureSubaru
Torque converter is only for an automatic trans. yours is MT. you just pull it apart and the clutch comes with the motor. You're seeing the clutch, not the TC
tappermanor
Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. I did talk to a friend and he said to access the bolts through the starter hole. So I removed (4) 12 mm bolts there. I removed all the bell housing bolts and will split it apart on Wednesday.
Fairtax4me
You removed 4 of the bolts from the clutch pressure plate. Totally unnecessary, and it's possible to cause damage to the pressure plate by doing that. Are you pulling the engine to replace the clutch?
