The Scooby
ok well i would have got my clutch in yesterday at workl, but the guys wimped out and then started to act like a bunch of pricks about helping me. so i barly got the coupe home. anyways they said that 6 out of 10 turbo cars will sheer the studs off the turbo when you try to take off the down pipe, thats why they dont want to help me. well i want to know if this is true, and if it is, what can i do to try to prevent it, just soak it in WD-40 or something? also im going to drop the tranny rather then pull the motor, so is there any other advice you all can point out to me that can make this faster?? or is there anyone that would be willing to come and help, i can suply the food, and a few bucks for ya. Thanks, Shean
Adam N.D.J.
Just soak the turbo nuts down with some PB about an hour before you go to work on it. I've taken apart quite a few turbo cars, and still have all the studs intact. A couple of them the stud unscrewed rather than the nut, but still didn't break, just take your time. One thing that helps a little I've found is to start out with trying to tighten it first, just a little bit, then once you get a degree or two of turn into it, then go for loosening, and while loosening, retighten it a little everyone one and a while. Lotsa luck.

Turbone
PB Blaster is what its called. Should be able to get it at the parts store the same time you get the plastic $3 clutch alignment tool.
baccaruda
I'd vote for sliding the engine forward instead, with a second jack under the trans to tweak the angle. You can also use a wire brush on a drill or dremel to clean the studs and nuts for the DP, and use some antisieze goo when you reassemble.
