ThosL
https://www.lewrockwell.com/2016/12/eric-peters/things-never/ Fortunately, I haven't had any bad accidents, though I only occasionally work on my car.
Fairtax4me
They should add to that... Don't smoke when you're working on the fuel system. Or use a grinder, or sawzall, or torch... Don't wear metal jewelry when working with electrical systems or servicing/changing a battery. Metal is conductive... And it glows red hot if you bridge the battery posts or short a power wire to ground with it. Don't wear loose fitting clothing at all, but especially when working on a running engine. If you've never had to rip a shirt sleeve off to get your arm unstuck from an engine bay you don't know what fun you're missing!
CNY_Dave
Don't make the down payment on the boat until the check from the new engine job clears!
ThosL
I have known mechanics in Vermont who lost tips of fingers, etc. working in the middle of winter due to moving machinery, or being in the wrong place/wrong time.
pzookey
The number one thing Mechanics need to avoid. Working on stuff for family. It never gets done fast enough, there is always something unrelated that you caused, and you end up doing it for free or really cheap.
turbosubarubrat
There is literally thousand of things you need to avoid. Like asbestos in brake shoes/pads and clutch linings which is still used today and is proven to cause cancer. Another is welding anywhere near where chlorinated brake clean has been applied.
