CRAZY LANE
My name is Travis I have a 1996 SUBARU LEGACY WAGON L SERIES. I believe a have a blown head gasket. I continue to fill the radiator with fluid and it never tops off. There is liquid blowing out of the exhaust pipe. I have a combustion leak tester that I am going to use. Any thoughts? Crash138
I'm new to Subaru too, but that's what it sounds like. I do know you should keep an eye out for coolant in your oil because that could ruin your bearings quick.
wtdash
Hi and Welcome to the USMB, The 'L" has the EJ22/2.2 engine, not the EJ25D/2.5 which is the engine more prone to HG failure. Has your '96 Overheated, are there Bubbles in the coolant overflow tank? Have you looked UNDER the car for a coolant leak? Has it had any service work done recently? DaveT
There are a lot of threads about headgaskets, how to check, etc. Don't let it overheat. Even if it runs over normal, while low on coolant, the headgaskets are compromised. The good news is that if it hasn't been badly overheated, replace them and it's a great engine.
