i suck at wiring-help!

Recommended Posts

so I finally got my weber installed and it started for a few seconds and died. my car does not have the original alternator plug, prior owner used little spade connectors and im not sure what wire/color goes where. so can somebody tell me what wires go where on the alternator? also my fuel pump control unit is bad, so i "had" it hardwired, but it still seems to be flooding even with a return "Y" fitting. so i am ordering a fuel pump controller from revolution electronics. pretty much makes the fuel pump pulse like the factory one and will shut off when there is no tach signal. comes with wiring diagram which is easy!..... unless you are me and know positive/negative and thats it. i need to tie into the tach signal to make it work. I have been trying to do my homework before making a post, but ive been told tap into the tachometer lead for the gauges or get the signal right of the negative side of the coil. can somebody please explain where i need to tap into the wire for a tach signal for this fuel pump controller? any help is greatly appreciated.

Get the tach signal from coil negative.

The factory pump controller does not send a pulsed signal to the pump(unlike certain more modern ones) nor does

the one I`ve seen from revolution electronics.

It does look like a suitable replacement.

The fuel pump controller will have no effect  on flooding issues.

For flooding,I`d check:

Float setting

Condition of, and dirt in the needle and seat.

Fuel pressure

got a 3.5 psi pump and went to start it. all of a sudden steam everywhere right when i got it running. i missed blocking off the coolant passage from block to manifold. beginners suck, i mean luck. ordered new gasket. it was dumping coolant in th intake manifold, causing it to flood. it does still sound very mean even burng more coolant than fuel lol

as for the electrical, i got my alterator wiring fixed, new plug in and wired properly. got my tach signal from the coil so i have an rpm gauge again. alternator is bad, putting out crap for voltage. I am going to be ordering a the revolution fuel pump controller and is the install goes well and looks clean, i will make a write up out of it. As an extra safety monitor, i will still have my inertia switch wired in even though the fuel pump controller will shut off the pump when there is no tach signal.
