Running rich and need a fix

Recommended Posts

I have a 1984 Sub 4x4 and she is running rich. Getting about 14 MPG. I shoot out black smoke when I mash on the gas going up hill...

Apart from replacing the O2 sensor and or Coolant temp sensor is there a way to adjust the fuel mixture so that my car will get the right mixture? Got a Hitachi Carb setup.

Well for starters, if you have a 84 4x4 you don't have an O2 sensor or any computer control unless it's got Cal emmisions. If you do have Cal. Emmisions then you should check for trouble codes and go from there.

If you don't have Cal. emmisions then there is an idle mixture adjustment. Also check your float level. And when did you give it a tune up last

Just tuned it up the other day. NGK spark plugs. Perhaps I am due for a carb rebuild.

do you know of any weber model # i should get i've looked at em but not sure which one to get are they just as efficient? will they run just as good in the cold

They will run better in the cold if you have your choke adjusted correctly. A weber just opens up the tuning possibilities. Stock hitachis are ok but u cant do much to them in the way of tuning. A weber is a good way of cleaning up the engine bay of a bunch of useless crap and being able to tune the car.
