338michael
Am wondering about my 88 DL Wagon showing Codes 11 & 13 in Test Mode (White Connector. Without W lead connected only Code 34 (EGR comes up. Is there any Tweak for the Crank Angle Codes? What are the Negative results of these Codes coming up (Power, Mileage? Is it an indicator of impending Doom? I've also seen mention of Air Gap adjustment??? Any help appreciated...
DaveT
The egr code almost always is caused by the coil of the egr solenoid being open. The only thing it effects is failing emmisions. The others, I have never had. The crank angle sensor is in the distributor.
TomRhere
Code 11 and 13 will be present anytime one is reading codes. The engine isn't running, so the ECU isn't seeing the pulses from the distributor,, so the codes are set.
naru
The only thing it effects is failing emmisions. This is incorrect. EGR faults lead to detonation at cruising speed.(too much spark advance now) w/resultant MPG loss and engine stress. Another effect is a small decrease in MPG due to increased engine pumping loss. (the engine spends energy pumping air it does not need) Not sure about these early Subaru ECUs,but, some cars will restrict spark advance w/an EGR fault is detected. DaveT
Ok, didn't know.that. I've had the solenoid fail open, and never noticed any effect while driving. Pretty much any normal conditions of hills, speed etc.
