MR_Loyale
The blower motor has two connectors, a 4 wire and 2 wire. On my white car, the two wire male plug is toast. It overheated years ago and I have been wiggling and jiggling it to keep it going over the years. Saturday I went to the parts dept of Peninsula Subaru and was told that Subaru doesn't sell connectors. You have to buy the entire harness. I looked for Loyales at Row52 and it appears the j/y in our are do not have any Loyales. I really wanted to keep the original and all, but I am thinking I will just solder this up. It is a simple plug with a T connector. Didn't someone say one time that the older Toyota also used this blower motor? I wonder if Toyota would have that connector. Thoughts? ANIM_Hooneru
Gday Mr Loyale, Yes, that connector is what you need. Commonly referred to by Auto Electricians as QC2's. You want the 'male' side that has the tab and takes the female crimp terminals. Quickcrimp and Narva both make them in a Blister Pack that contains both halves, ie a male and female QC2 plus two male terminals and two female terminals (dunno if you get those brands over there in the States) that you should be able to pick up from your local auto parts store or 24hr servos sometimes keep them. There are other bits of the car where you could theoretically steal that bit from, indicators and park lights use them on the Leones, as does the Alternator and Washer Bottle motor. From memory every Blower Motor I have messed with in my 6 years of being an Auto Sparky has used the same 2 pin connector...so yeah there's a few options there. If you do decide to go with a new connector, they are a bit tricky to crimp those gold terminals if you haven't done so before. If you have a standard set of Automotive Crimpers/Wire Strippers you should have the right tool for doing it with. The three segments in between the bit where you have your red/blue/yellow crimpers and your wire strippers are the segments used for crimping those terminals. Let us know how you get on, Regards, Owen.
MR_Loyale
Thanks for the backgound on the connectors. I did have the feeling like I had seen them many other places which is why I assumed I could easily get one quick. I thought the dealer would easily be able to get me one. The dealer parts guy told me when he worked at GM getting connectors was no big deal but Subaru doesn't do connectors, only the harness. I do have a crimper so I should be fine. I will let you know how I get on.
wagonist
I've gotten that type of connector from many a different auto electrician, and even the generic auto parts store over the years. BTW, pretty much every connector in the JDM version looks like that. lights, blinkers, aircon, ... Not sure why other markets got specialised one-off type (except to make money as spare parts )
MR_Loyale
That is what is so frustrating. I know it is a common connector, but I asked at several auto parts stores and the first thing they would do is type on their computer and of course it doesn't come up as a Subaru blower motor connector. I get so tired dealing with auto parts desk people.
