Miss Happy
Car shudders when coming to a hard brake and then stalls. From what Ihave found online, it's a known issue with 2010, 11, and 12 Legacy. Itook it to the dealership and they say it is a blockage in the torqueconverter and that it and the transmission need to be replaced - $7500. From posts I have seen online elsewhere, most have replaced theconverter ONLY for $1500. Anyone have any experience with this? Andcan one tell me as to why if both are replaced the cost is so high? Dj7291993
If I remember right, it's a bearing in the torque converter. The one I've diagnosed, we sent to the dealer, cause it was under warranty. Think ot was a tsb, not a recall though.
GreaseMonkey03
Because transmissions are expensive.
Miss Happy
Yes, parts are expensive. Converter with labor is $1500 - labor is high because you have to drop the transmission to get to it. So if that is the case, the transmission is $6,000? A 1/4 of the cost of the car? I don't think so.
GreaseMonkey03
There is also additional labor to remove and replace the transmission. Dropping the tranny is different from removing one. And it's the dealership. You could take it elsewhere for another quote.
1 Lucky Texan
I dunno how many miles are on the car, but many people would opt for a used transmission from a wreck. If you happen to have very low miles and the car has been meticulously serviced at a dealership - you could try contacting SOA and have a regional rep review the issue. I have read of more than one instance where major components have gone bad at low mileage and Subaru has split the cost or comped the labor, etc. worse thing that happens is they say no.
