I just bought a 1995 impreza awd 5spd with a 1.8l and I'm looking to build it to be around 350 hp I want it to handle the curves as well as it does now if not better. I guess turn it into kinda rally/street car. I know I'm going to have to do a drive train swap but I'm new to the subaru scene so I don't know what to do to get started

A donor WRX STI and go from there. 350hp goal, you won't get by with anything less. You could do an EJ20G or EJ20K swap, but neither will get to those levels without lots of work. and the 20k is known for eating rod bearings on USDM gasoline

That was the plan but they are hard to come by in my neck of the woods. I have been looking into the 2.2 turbos on ebay and found quite a few for around 1500. Would I need the transmission as well or could I beef up the trans I already have?

There's no beefing up the 5mt really. But they are easy to swap. To get to the actual HP you listed you'll be looking at full WRX STI swap and lots of time and $$$. Those things are high maintenance.

As it sounds like you're still in the ballparking/planning stages, do a few searches on the EZ30 motor swap. It's mostly bolt in with a lot of wiring splicing but some of the guys on NASIOC and RS25 have done them and could give the necessary info.

You can get the necessary parts for far less $$$ and come out with a beastly fast car and far more reliability than the turbo stuff. As they say, "there's no replacement for displacement."

All this is assuming you're not afraid to rip things apart and troubleshoot the inevitable snags and such. If you're new to retrofitting and such the best thing to do would be to sell what you have and buy a WRX or similar. Don't know your level of expertise and we get everyone on here from the extremely knowledgeable to the kids who just got home from the movie theaters of the last Fast and Furious movie and changed their oil a few times.

But the good news is there are a lot of swap options and a lot of info out there as you go.

This is basically an idle hands project just something to keep me busy on my off days I get 4 off a week so time isn't an issue money isn't much of a problem either. And I an still in the planning stages but I'd like to be able to take this thing to rally events in the future once it's ready. Shying that goes into the car will be completely rebuilt before it goes in so while I've got it stripped down any internal components that I need to add in will be installed then. Right now I've only got 750 in the car and the way the market is around her I could put another 4500 to 5k into it and not get to the cost of a decent wrx

2.2 closed deck turbo block, but your never going to meet your goals using the factory ej22t heads..

What I would do is get an EJ20G. They will run on the electronics your car has, you can change injectors around, add some fuel pressure under boost and tune it to run ok without much issue. You won't have 350hp but it would be 100 hp more than stock. If you can't obtain a wrecked '04- 07 STI, it's best to forget your 350hp goal, because that is the cheapest way out. Beyond that, a JDM EJ207 swap and you could probably get the engine and 6spd for around $10k, get them to throw some wiring and ECU in for you possibly
