brighton98
Noticing a whining or humming under acceleration, louder the faster I go. If I put trans (auto) in neutral at speed the noise stops, even if I rev motor. It's rusty with 200K on the odo, so I'm trying for a cheap fix. Thoughts?? CNY_Dave
Consistent with the driveshaft center bearing, or a front or rear diff on the way out. If the '95 has the FWD fuse location, put in a fuse, check for FWD on the dash, see if that changes the noise.
CNY_Dave
Of course could be a bad motor or trans mount allowing the trans or motor to contact the body somewhere too.
GeneralDisorder
Drain the front and rear diff gear oil and check how much metal is on the magnets. If there's a giant forest of shavings you have found the culprit - almost always a pinion bearing. GD
brighton98
Just an update: changed rear gear oil, it was clean/no metal. Checked ujoints, they rotate a bit but are tight otherwise. Car never goes too far or fast, so guess I'll live with it for now or just use FWD since that stops it.
uniberp
Rotate your tires, see how the sound changes. Could be the rears overrunning the fronts.
