pearlm30
I am planning on doing EJ22 reseal when the engine is out of the car. Do you guys recommend Harbor Freight 750lbs engine stand? Is it going to work with subaru boxer engines? Do I need special bolts to mount it? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks
nvu
i have the 1000lb one, same design but 4 wheels instead of 3. works fine for my rebuild, 750lb should be fine also. use the short transmission bolts that came out of the bellhousing to mount the engine. i'd put large washers on the bellhousing face so the steel mount tubes don't dig into the aluminum
AdventureSubaru
EJ22 is less than 200lbs dry. one of the few times a HF tool will be plenty overkill.
idosubaru
Subaru engines are easy to just toss on an old tire or upside down wheel or other equipment in a cluttered garage or just do on the floor one side at a time if this is a one off gig. But yeah I've had one for years. It's just a stand, not much that can go wrong. I wouldn't call the three point kind Super stable and maybe don't use it if you let 6 years climb over dangerous stuff in your garage but it's perfectly fine.
