SubeeTed
Hi all! In my ongoing sink money or not issue...my '92 Loyale is still doing weird things! These are just updates, and hopefully clarifications! It's 208K miles, 5 spd, A/C (doesn't work) I only changed my thermostat! I hoped it would send my temp gauge down. It hasn't ! Yesterday was the first hot day again....I did alot of driving involving hills. The needle spent alot of time above half on the gauge! I know my electric fan works I heard it! So the qustion is....Head Gasket?? This thing would have died by now I would have think??? Or replace that darn Radiator??? I've got that WEIRD power/engine surge again! It happened yesterday while this thing is running hot again! In 4th gear, at around 3,200 rpm, it serged to about 3,700 rpm then settled down! I stayed in the throttle and did not try to control this event! I wanted to see/hear what was going on!?? IS it my clutch?? Why would it settle down and not just escalate up the tach??? I've been running Lucas Oil treatment for a couple of years to help get rid of that 2,500 rpm rattle that these engines have under load (in summer). Is this another version of this??? HELP! Or junk the '92 Subee!!! SubeeTed
MorganM
Don't junk it till it spews oil and coolant from every orface As for the temp I'd say quit slacking. New radiator, new hoses, new coolant, new clamps (clamps are so key) All of those chores are easier then changing a thermostat. See if your budget will alow for a 2 row radiator; your Loyale will love you! The surging is kinda funny. Lets get some more details on this. When you say surge are you just talking about RPMs coming up w/o you moving the throttle? Are you talking about an electricity surge at the volts meter? All electrical componets surging? Any thing else weird?
GeneralDisorder
First, before doing ANYTHING else, you need to verify the accuracy of your temp guage. They are WAY more innacurate than you think. I just changed the guage cluster in my brat and the temp dropped 1/4 on the guage. Just because your guage reads high does not mean the engine is running hot. If it's not boiling over, and the radiator fan doesn't stay on all the time, then first try to determine an accurate reading for the temp. Replacing the radiator can be costly - especially if there is nothing wrong with what you have. Both my rigs have their original radiators, and I have no overheating problems at all. Of course you should replace your thermostat (cheap), and *inspect* your radiator and hoses. But don't go replacing things willy-nilly just cause you think the guage looks to high.
