Trunk problems

Recommended Posts

 I recently purchased a 1986 XT GL-10 Turbo, and I got it from a person who bought it from the impound. Unfortunately the impound didn't give him a key to start the car so they just put a new ignition in it. One problem is that I can't access the trunk to find out what is it. Are there any hints or tricks to opening trunks on these cars or do I have to go midevil and cut up my backseat?

Take the lock out of the passenger door and read the code off it. Then take this code to a Subaru dealer (or two) and see if they can make a key from the code.

If you cant find one that can post the code here and I will try to find you a dealer or shop that can make one. S-Wingstuff in Denver was successful at one point for me too.

Otherwise you can take a screwdriver to the lock and break into it and then replace all the door and trunk locks with a set from a junked car with a working key.

You can just get a junkyard lock with no key and a locksmith can rework it to use your current key. Just did mine for $10. Much easier than replacing all the locks and the ignition.

a. Along the drivers door sill in front of the seat their should be a lever to pop the trunk. Push to pop the fuel door, Pull to pop the trunk...

b. There is a small pull tab at the top of the rear seat that will allow the rear seat back to fold down, allowing access to the trunk...

c. I think the dealer can cut a key if you provide them with the VIN and proof of ownership...
