Where does one get paint for these old school cars?

Recommended Posts

I need to fix up the rust spots here soon on the 78 wagon im getting, any tips on where to find/get touch up paint? I presume it will have to be custom mixed, and isnt sold in bottles anymore, and I probably need ALOT more than just the little touch up sticks have... LOL!

The paint on the car otherwise is fine, just a few spots that stick out.

Just goto your local Autobody Paint shop and give them the paint code for your car. They should be able to supply you with more then enough for doing touch-ups. It won't be a perfect match to what's on your car but close enough for what you need.

There's a color code badge on the core support just to the left of the hood latch. If you know a place down there that can mix auto paints, take that number to them and tell them what car, year, etc. and they should be able to mix you up a batch. If I was near my wagon right now, I could tell you what the number is but its about 20 miles away. But yeah, find a place that specializes in auto paint and give them all the info and they should be able to mix you up a batch of paint. I hope this helps:D

Unless you are going to paint your entire car, I've been told that pro paint shops have a sampling "gun" that works similar to how Home Depot/Lowes matches paint color. This will take into account matching old faded paint.

P.S. Rustoleum white works great on my 90 Loyale. I use it on a monthly basis to touch up rust spots kinda like acne coverup cream.
