Rust
So my 1986 EA82 Auto FWD is having ignition problems again. The strange thing is it only occurs in the morning. I have to twist the key around 20 times before the starter connects. Afternoons are fine, starts right up first twist of the key. Also starts right up after stopping after running. I replaced the ignition a few years ago, when I had similar issues, but it was happening all the time. I have multiple ignitions and starters in my stash of parts, but I'd like to get some opinions before I tear into my steering column again. Anyone have similar symptoms ever? naru
I had to bypass the neutral safety switch to get mine to start relieably. Put an ohmmeter on yours. I had 7 ohns intermittently. Even slightly bad contacts are enough to upset the low resistance solenoid circuit.

DaveT
Intermittent high resistance connection in the harness between the ignition switch, or the contacts in the solenoid need replacing. There is a thread or 2 about adding a relay, which fixes the high resistance problem.
