Subaru Scott
...if the transmission was removed... I really don't see you having problems.
idosubaru
In my experience it'll run great for awhile with no noticeable symptoms and then catastrophically fail in a few months, maybe a year. i'd install another transmission and don't want to say it since it makes it easy for unsavory people to hose the next owner should they sell it. ...if the transmission was removed... I really don't see you having problems. i think he's saying the engine was removed, not the transmission.

longbowman
ok.....yes engine was removed but manual trans was still in car and drive shaft hooked up yet. many different opinions from lots of subaru enthusiasts. even certified subaru mechanics have told me that it will probably be fine. but noone has actually been able to tell me what would actually fail or what would be damaged in the transmission specifically. also, i'm in southern minnesota and need to get the engine overhauled completely. anyone know of a reputable subaru engine shop? Gloyale
Spider gears in the center diff will be ruined. They are not meant for constant high speed spinning against the thrust washers. I'd plan on replacing the center diff (rear section of trans)
