Zags Posted July 4, 2017 Share Posted July 4, 2017 Hey all, I'm working on restoring a 78 Brat GL. It's needing a lot of rust repair. The bed is good, fender's aren't TOO bad... but the cabin floor and cowl were gone. I assumed the floor was gone because of the water coming in the cowl, but, after fixing the cowl, I noticed water was still getting in the cab. Where from? Well, my windshield is leaking badly. After a few months of looking, I've managed to find a windshield for it, but I've had no luck finding the rubber gasket/seal/trim (I'm not sure what you call it) to seal the windshield. moosens Posted July 4, 2017 Share Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) Try Precision Replacement Parts for the windshield gasket. They sold us two batches which were fresh made from Thailand. Please post what you paid and the availability , which I hope you ask them how many they have left for the rest of the gang. Should you strike out I might have one I can sell. No promises. I also have some fenders from good solid used to some new old stock. There's a long line. But as I get into my storage unit I'll be pulling these items out and more. moosens Posted July 4, 2017 Share Posted July 4, 2017 You have to find every pinhole down under the cowl where the pine needles and leaves and crap accumulate. moosens Posted July 5, 2017 Share Posted July 5, 2017 (edited) Lastly , you can likely forget about the plastic chrome trim that sits in the rubber gasket. Not sure any have saved it and been able to transfer it over with real success. I also have a rear slider with a decent gasket around it. Old gasket , but not bad and I'm pretty sure those are impossible to get. Hopefully I'm wrong for the Brat folks. moosens Posted October 10, 2017 Share Posted October 10, 2017 Sorry , but there isn't anyone I know of who re-manufactures rubber. But good news ! You can either get one from me or just go through the supplier who made them for our group here. PRP - look for an archived post. The subject comes up a few times a year. Part number should be WCR-288 but double check that. The last batch they had made was around 2009 or 2012 , much better than 40 year old stuff. Check with them first and if they are out let me know.
