Mclovin846
I am in search of a rain gutter mounted roof rack for my 1993 Subaru Loyale at a reasonable price. I actually would just like a set of cross bars so I can mount a basket. Anything out there that is cheap but works well? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Rust
I've used Highland ladder bars (Pep Boys) and other flat lip base type bars. The key is running some securing bolts/screws through the plastic rain gutter into the roof itself on either side of the base clamps. The plastic rain gutter is just clipped to the car, and it needs reinforcement. Especially if you plan on tossing a canoe or kayak up there. Screwing anything into the roof is not needed
Subaru Scott
Here's the setup I did on my XT: Wallyworld basket, 99 bucks. Could have probably found one cheaper, but it was convenient. Cradled in hardware store handles that I bent the feet on to match the roofline. Fastened down with stainless bolts into crimp-in threaded stainless inserts from Northern Tool, where I got the insert tool from as well. Didn't have to remove or butcher the headliner either. Stainless hose clamps hold it down, and it's incredibly strong. Add a hitch-mounted basket on the back, and who needs a truck?
