Evil02outback
I picked up a 93 5speed legacy thought it was a good deal, turns out it wasn't, but I still need to put it together for my sister to drive. I changed out the engine because I found a gouge in the crank and on the face of the crank pulley, I was told it was a good engine. So I picked up the car with the transmission olsitting in the back of the car and now I get the fun job of putting the puzzle back together that somebody else took apart. Any pictures or links and info would be greatly appreciated
Evil02outback
Mainly what I am needing help with is all the cables and hill hold stuff
GeneralDisorder
I would try Google image search. Check the trans for input shaft play. Otherwise you might get a nasty surprise on your test drive. GD
Evil02outback
Ok I was hoping somebody would have a write up of one or some good pictures. The trans was in the car before you replied but if memory serves me correct I did check it and it was ok

idosubaru
Piecing something together is always a mess, not sure a write up exists for other people's messes. Get an FSM so you can see some of the exploded views of the hill holder and cable adjustment/replacement and transmission sections and torque values. They're readily available free all over the Internet. You can probably get some guidance here on which FSMs as legacy trans from 93-98 didn't change much so even a 1998 is probably usable for your current needs. Fairtax4me
Trans may have a bad main shaft bearing. Hard to say. Even if you don't feel any play in the input shaft there still may be bearing damage. Cables should be straightforward. Clutch cable runs up along the top of the trans. The hill holder cable runs between. the intake runners and out behind the intake. Bracket that holds it bolts to the block just in front of the release lever. Adjust the clutch cable first so you have 1/4" of play at the top of the fork. Turn the adjusting nut on the hill cable until it just pulls against the spring on the holder valve. The holder should pull the release lever forward just ever so slightly. Properly adjusted it will hold the car from rolling backwards on a moderate hill but will not prevent it from rolling forward.
moosens
Hill holder - It's probably not going to be right until you set it up and try it , adjust it , and maybe then it'll be fine or keep adjusting. Try going closer to 1/8 inch on that clutch release. Or start at 1/4 but you might find yourself reducing that figure slightly. Been driving my 92 same as yours with slight bearing noise for so many miles I've lost track. Been looking for a replacement but so far so good.
