steve56
Putting 06 Impreza heads back together. When cam plate is torqued the cam shaft wont turn. Must have switched a cam shaft or cam plate. The #s one the cam plates is DS-07011A and the other one is 70-070110B. Don't see any #s on cam shafts. Is that enough information to sort out which cam and cam plate goes together, or is it back to the machine shop.
Fairtax4me
Cams are easy. Left side cam is longer. Plates aren't any different side to side but they are line bored on the head so they have to be on the correct head for the bores to match. Remove the cams bolt the cam plate down and check the seams inside the bores where the two meet. If it's the wrong plate there will be a ledge on at least one of the bores where the halves aren't lined up. If that's the case, swap the plates and recheck. Gloyale
there should be 2 letters stamped at the edge of the heads, and on each cam case. might need to wipe with brake cleaner....should be on the top edge of the heads and cases like "NX" or "WN" match the letters on each head to the appropriate cradle.
steve56
Okay The cams and cam plates are in the correct head.Thank you guys for guiding me thru the process. Have new problem though. When I torque the rocker arms assemblies to 18 ft.lbs. The cam shaft is moving freely. The front exhaust rocker arm gets stuck on the assemble and wont rotate . The rear exhaust rocker and front and rear intake rockers seem to move freely. Torqued down the torques plus and Allen head bolts and now all rockers are moving freely on rocker arms, but the cam shaft is turning hard, Must be overlooking something simple. Fairtax4me
What timing position is the camshaft in? If a cam lobe is pushing against any of the rockers and pushing a valve open even slightly you won't be able to turn the cam by hand. What are you using to lubricate the cam and rockers when you put it all together?
Gloyale
did you keep good track of all the interlock pins and plates on the intake rocker assembly? Those AVCS engines can be tricky.....gotta get all pins and tabs engaged properly.
