Subinoobi Posted September 10, 2017 Share Posted September 10, 2017 So lately I've been having this random issue where I'll be driving and then my gears move out of place. I can still find my gears and it drives just fine, but where 1st gear normally is it will move where 3rd gear is. like every gear moves to the right, and where first and second are is neutral. after a little bit of playing around it will go back to normal, but this is an issue I should probably look into. Anyone have any ideas what's going? I replaced the bushing on my shifter thinking it was that but it did it again, so that was not the issue. Any help is appreciated! I think I have the same style issue, like my gears are crooked. From 1st to 2nd is most obvious you don't go straight down you go down diagonally to the right and since I put the s/r shifter on you csn physically see its pointed the wrong way (since the s/r shifter only goes on 2 ways via held in place by the pin I can't bypass the issue and put it straight) is this the kinda thing you mean? Although mine never goes back it's always done this Well my issue is intermittent it doesn't always do this. and it's not that the pattern of my shifting is wonky, it's like my whole pattern just shifts to the right. Are you saying the whole position of the shifter moves? Everything still works ok? In that case, I'd think transmission mounts might be bad. The shifter doesn't physically move to the right, but the positions that the gears are located do, and then there's just a void where 1st and 2nd normally are. CaptainDub Posted September 12, 2017 Share Posted September 12, 2017 Crawl under it and look at the shift linkages while someone moves the shifter in the car. Check out this parts diagram to identify bushings, It shows every bushing in the shifter assembly. Also the coupler that attaches to the transmission shift rod with a spring pin gets worn and will be loose. it doesn't have a bushing but If that's not tight on the shaft you'll have to either cut the coupler and put a bolt through to tighten it up or just tap through the coupler and the shaft for a 3/8 bolt. ferp420 Posted September 14, 2017 Share Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) Capain dub thanks for that diagram it clearly shows the linkadge adjustment in the shifters the part # 14 has the studs are in it part #18 is a nut but it shows were the holes are those holes are larger than the bolts they go in to and that is were all your ajustment is if those bolts came loose it could cause the OPs issue part # 18 the nut is usaly coverd by undercoating and cant be seen till you scrape it off the holes can be inlarged a bit if you need more adjustment if any of those little parts in the shifter base broke or wore out it could make the shifter stiff and cause it to move at the adjuster point instead of the shifter joint making the location of the gears phisicly change places Edited September 14, 2017 by ferp420 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
