xdeadeye1
Saw an ad for a 2001 forester with an issue. I don't know if this is a common thing. Hard fix? it says it's automatic, drive train is all good. Driver side Rear strut tower is bad. Rear tire is leaning. Is this common? Is there a kit? I'm guessing it's rusted bad. Salt on roads. Any help is appreciated. Yes I know you could tell me more with a picture, I haven't seen it first hand myself yet. I'm just gauging whether its worth it. 133k miles, Asking $
Mike104
Guess it depends on what is bad. If it's the strut simply a parts remove and replace. If it's the mounting area would need some fabrication skills to cut out bad parts and weld in some new metal.
xdeadeye1
Is there a body panel to cut out and weld in? Or is this a total re fabrication out of whatever metal?
1 Lucky Texan
rust or wreck related? I suppose the devil is in the details on something like that.
matt167
Subaru does, or did supply new strut towers and they are spot welded in. Would be a large job but doable if the metal around the tower is good
xdeadeye1
Judging from the Advertisement, its rust. No mention of wreck, and body looks fine from outside

Mike104
Part is available (I2) 51600FC101 (or other superseding part numbers dealer will use VIN to determine correct one) Around $400 though. http://parts.subaru.com/p/WHEEL-APRON-COMPLETE-REAR-RIGHT/49502852/51600FC051.html May be possible to cut offending part or section of from pull and pay yard and weld in, but again depends on how bad the area is rusted Edited September 14, 2017 by Mike104

idosubaru
Ifant imagine even considering it. If that's rusted so probably is the exhaust fuel filler brake lines fuel lines brakes other strut towers quarter panels.
xdeadeye1
They sent me pictures on Facebook. I cant post them here idk... anyway,, the rust isn't around the top,, you can see the metal split inside the wheel well behind the strut.. and inside the car they have the carpet panel pulled back and it seems to be coming apart there too. But not the strut cap area.
Mike104
May also take a look at the rear crossmember and underside of the body for rust that may affect structural integrity
