Cambion84
Hi guys, my new to me 06 Forester X is leaking at one of the power steering lines going into the rack n Pinion, It's leaking right where the rubber line goes into the metal line right before it curves. I replaced the clamp and it didn't help so I added another clamp and it still the same I trimmed the hose back a bit and put 2 different tighter clamps & its still leaking, what do I do? ... kinda don't want to buy a whole new line and it looks like the other end of the rubber hose might be sealed from factory onto the metal line...any help would be appreciated at all thank you. idosubaru
Replace the line or verify the source of the leak, maybe it’s something else and it’s getting the hose wet but that’s not the root cause. www,car-part.com for used parts and usually great prices, anywhere will ship, get one from a non-rust prone area. A picture would be most helpful. Even looking up the Subaru factory part online to find the exploded view daigram would help then post that or a link to it. Fairtax4me
Could be leaking further up the line and it's running down.

Cambion84
Mike104 thank you so much your diagram stopped my panic! this morning I woke early and I tried to remove the leaky hose. I could not for the life of me remove the line from the rack I ripped the metal line off the nipple/nut and I cut (with saw zall) a line down the middle of it so I could collapse it and relieve the pressure or tension for easy turning but that did not help. There is barely anything there for me to grab to turn and at this point its gonna take an experienced mechanic to get that out. so I came home and I decided that I'll pay someone to do it and order the parts, but when I go online, I see only the hoses on the right side of diagram that Mike104 posted and not the ones I need, so the basically the end of my hose gets threaded into the rack I believe not over the nipple like all that I found...... unless I messed up.....oh boy Im panicking again
nvu
not sure on newer forester's but when i had to replace the line on my 03 impreza i used some crow's foot sockets and wobble extensions to reach the nuts on the rack side. there's no direct line of sight to the area so i used a cellphone to look at the area and placed everything in by feel. for the impreza, the line that goes into the rack was below the car and ran along the crossmember before threading into the steering rack. Fairtax4me
If you cut the line off, why didn't you put a 6 point socket on the fitting to remove it from the union? If the hose was clamped on its the return hose which carries very little pressure. That hose can be replaced with a section of generic ATF cooler hose from a parts store. There may be a crimp at the other end but that can be cut off if necessary.
