[HTi]Johnson
I have a 1983 GL Wagon. I want to put a stereo in, where would I mount. I've seen some pretty bad jobs that replaced the stock radio and left gaping holes, but I also don't want it in my glove box.
GeneralDisorder
$15 from any good stereo shop. They will try to tell you it's for an EA82. You will have to lose your ashtray though.... GD

TheSubaruJunkie
Here's a good replacement for your standard center console: You can find these in early '80 and '81 Hatchbacks. They might be available in other subaru's as well, but i havent seen many of them. If gotten a couple from the junkyard, here's another one that's setup alittle better: They fit a standard DIN size radio/CD player without any modification. the only problem is it sits at an angle and makes it hard to read most LCD screen's. Also, it seems most CD Players I install into consoles like this, stop working prematurely. Im not sure if its the angle at which is sits, or all the off-roading I do in my car's. But it sure is better than hacking apart the center console like i did with my lifted rig: -Brian

TheSubaruJunkie
Wires dont bother me one bit. you should see my living room!! 5 computers networked, 5.1 DTS surround setup, 3 TV's with cable... all wired, and every wire exposed. Just as long as you remember to lift your feet when you walk -Brian
Alex C
I ended up with a gm style big cd player, I put it in the tray at the bottom of the console. I can just remove a disk when the shifter is in park. I think it worked pretty good, plus its not at an extreme angle, which will damamge cd players or cause them to not work right. I think you dont want to go over 30 degrees max. Alex
MilesFox
its not the best picture, but here is my cd installation. the cd player is flush with the console, but hte console sits about a half inch out forward. there is also a CB in the console also. i had to disassemble the console to get it all mounted, the cd is fixed rather well, so if you wanted to break in my car and steal my cd, you will have to take the whole console if you want to make a quick getaway! i accidentally knocked out the knockout that would be the power mirror, but i put a big sticker over that to disguise it.
