awcforever
Getting ready to undertake this bad boy. I just sold two Foresters and an Impreza so all that’s left is an 01 Forester, the 2000 Legacy, and the 2001 Outback with a good EZ30 but bad trans. I did a site search for the wiring changes but couldn’t find any definitive answers.....if anyone has any good docs let me know....either way I’m just going to dive in.....shouldn’t be too bad
awcforever
Sorry, the Legacy is 5MT.....not auto. I figured since I have the Outback I should be able to steal anything I need for the swap
idosubaru
you're right - bolt right up, tons of wiring work, and roll like normal, nothing particular different installing the first gen EZ30 H6 behind an MT.
Numbchux
Mechanically fairly simple. Wiring is a big job. You'll either have to cut up both harnesses to make a hybrid harness to control the EZ30 with the Legacy body stuff. Or, swap basically the entire dash. All H6s have automatic temperature control, so the controller for that and the heater box is all different. Gauge cluster is different. IIRC, all H6s have side airbags, so in order to make that system happy, you'll need the front seats. If your H6 donor car is a VDC, that opens a whole other can of worms. For your sake, I hope it's an LL Bean. Much much easier to swap the 5MT into the Outback.
