97 legacy
The fuel pump relay began a noticeable audible rapid clicking corresponding to the engine cutting out simultaneously, replaced the fuel pump relay,no change, jumped the relay n hot wired the pump still no change, it does somehow occasionally seem to click less after it warms up??? Help... anymore suggestions?
idosubaru
1.verify for certain it’s the fuel pump relay? Maybe it’s not? 2. check engine light on? 3. Look at fsm schematic for fuel pump to see what is related. but someone will probably post. Edited March 6, 2018 by idosubaru
97 legacy
It's definitely the fuel pump relay that is clicking, getting worse, acting like there is something shorting out the fuel system......
1 Lucky Texan
could this be a bad ECU ? or some pressure sensor in the fuel system?
Gloyale
Check the engine harness connectors, and the ground wire on the intake manifold. All ECU and IG and Fuel relays ground through that bolt to the intake.

impostor
Along the same concept as what gloyale said, make sure your battery connections are clean and tight, and make sure the large ground wire at the starter is tight.
fgf
Check wires to relay coil. I had exact same symptoms about 10 days ago and they were caused by cracked wire leading to the connector. The copper strands can fatigue crack inside the wire insulation.
97 legacy
It ended up being a bad plug wire arcing out on the manifold..... replaced the coIL an plug wires..... must of shorting an whacking out the electrical fuel system.... thanks for everyone's input ! ! ! And this is why we recommend either OEM or NGK plug wires only. Store brand wires are crap.
