Impress owner
The windshield wipers appear to be running backwards after replacing the wiper transmission on my 1998 Impressa can someone please give me some guidance on how to correct this issue. Thank you so much in advance, much appreciated!
lmdew
So you replaced the motor and left the wiper arms on the shaft. The easy way, I'd remove the wiper arms. 14mm nut. Then turn on the wiper motor and watch the arm shaft. It should be normal. Turn off the wipers and then shut down the car. The arms can be installed in the park positon. Impress owner
Thank you but We didn't replace the motor, only the wiper transmission, now when we turn the wipers on, the rotation goes towards the passenger side of the car first as opposed to the driver's side as it should. el_freddo
Was the arm from the transmission fitted correctly and not upside down/180 out? Cheers Bennie
john in KY
I seem to recall the XT6 had a LH and RH transmission. One was used on right hand drive cars and the other on left hand. wondering if the transmission you used came from a JDM vehicle?
Impress owner
Was the arm from the transmission fitted correctly and not upside down/180 out?CheersBennie Good morning and thank you, when you say the arm of the transmission do you mean the short section that attaches the mechanism to the wiper motor? If so, that arm is currently pointed toward the passenger side of the car. Thank you again Shell Edited March 12, 2018 by Impress owner
CNY_Dave
On my outback I rebuilt the rear wiper assembly and had the exact same result (I think). The round gear in the motor/transmission assembly the wiper rack connected to had 2 holes, 180 degrees out. I picked one, and choose poorly! When I put the wiper on and tried it out, it went from normal park position to down across where the license plate sits. In that case, I just moved the wiper on the post to put park on the right side of the car instead of left. If that happened on the front wipers, they would park straight up and wipe down towards the bottom of the windshield when you turned them on (after adjusting their position on the posts)

CNY Dave has my other suggestion - gears intalled backwards or a second mounting point for it to run in the opposite direction. Might be worth pulling it out and having a close look at it's setup to see what's up Cheers Bennie
Gloyale
You put the arm onto the wiper motor assembly 180 out.
