If it happens once per wheel rotation it's brakes or such.

If it happens 4x per wheel rotation it's a u-joint.

 

If it gets faster in rhythm much faster than you speed up, that is 4x wheel rotation, it's pretty noticeable.

If it is rythmic squeak like the video it's a U joint.

Quite often they only make noise in reverse.

what video?

i see there is a swf file that neither my windows or linux computer wants to open...

A good local shop can modify the "non serviceable" U joint mounts.  At least the local one here did with my older Loyale "non serviceable" driveshaft.  The U joints on my 09 Forester look pretty much the same as the ones on the Loyale shaft, although I have not measured them.

Yeah, you have to dremel out the “staking” to get the old ones out. I haven’t done it yet but that’s what I understand others have done.

 

I’m going to try to use a hole saw without a pilot but, if I can find one just the right size.

 

Mine are stiff after 500k. Tried drilling to get some grease in there, but the metal is just too hard.
