Sir_wankel
So I've been wondering why my GL has had trouble shifting. As soon as I added some atf fluid, I noticed it leaking from the tranny pan. Already ordered a filter kit with gaskets. So what I'm wondering is if the pan will need sealant with the new gaskets? I searched the service manual PDFs for any info on this but came up empty handed. Hopefully once this is repaired it will be a reliable classic. Thanks for looking! silverhelme
Unless you have debris in the fluid there is no reason to change the filter. It is nothing but a fine screen. The manual does not say to use seal but I use a light coating of ultra grey rtv and have never had a problem. Be sure to check your governor valve and adjust your 2-3 band per the manual. Most people dislike the 3at but with proper maintenance I've never had a problem.
Sir_wankel
Not really needing to change the filter, just need the new gaskets but the kit came with it. Only 3 bucks on rock auto. Thanks I'll have to check that governor too, But The car seems to run fine when it has the right amount of atf in it. I'd much rather have a standard tranny, but i can't complain the car has really low miles. @silverhelme
