Dave Soslau
Working on my 83 DL and noticed a wire that goes from the positive terminal of the ignition coil to a brace on the back right side of the 1800 engine. Car runs, but it seems strange for a ground wire to go to the positive terminal. Is this actually correct? If so, any idea of the reason or logic? Inquiring mind wants to know. George1943
Are you sure there's not a condenser on that wire?
Dave Soslau
There is a small round cylinder-shaped part the wire has close to the middle and it’s mounted under the top mounting bolt of the ignition coil brace. I’m a newbie, so I assumed it was a resistor. In any case the wire goes from the postitve terminal of the coil to what I now know is a condensor to a small bracket attached right near the back side of the right cylinder head. I’d love to learn and understand this connection, but don’r want to be a burden.
jono
Remove it, go on, someone has to be the guinea pig. Can you edit your original post to include the fact wire does not go directly to earth, but through radio interference suppressor I think you will find it is Possibly looks like an add on as I think radios were a dealer fitted option so suppressor would have been also added with radio install

I bought the 800 page service manual on ebay last year, but I feel like a need a reading specialist to navigate it most of the time. That being said, yes this wire in question is a noise condensor for the radio signal. With the guidance of the specialists, I figured out what to look for in the manual!!!
pbilt
the 2 yellows go to - one from the harness other to the distributor. the 2 black whites go to+. you may have 3 yellows one runs to the dash one comes from the harness and one goes to the distributor i unhooked the one that goes to the dash i dont know what it does tack works still. the black wire that has the condenser on it goes with the yellow - so - side of coil has 2 yellows and the black condenser wire + has 2 black whites. the coil bracket has to be mounted to the strut tower it grounds it the condenser bolts to the top bolt of the coil bracket and the end that is not connected to the coil grounds to the bolt on the water neck of the block and another ground wire from water neck to body
