Ravenwoods
My daughter has a 96 Legacy Brighton with the EJ22 engine and manual transmission. It has 116,000 miles on it. I took the Throttle Position Sensor off unaware it has to be adjusted when you put it back on. The car is still running fine but she says it is slower to accelerate. I looked in YouTube for some instructional videos but didn’t find one specific to the EJ22 engine.
john in KY
One way involves using seat of the pants technique. Make a minute adjustment, I would start withe the TPS in the middle of its sweep, and take a test ride. Eventually you will find the sweet spot. Mike104
Page 3 shows how to adjust the TPS. Remove ECU and check for voltage with the throttle closed (Connector & terminal / Specified voltage (B136) No. 15 — (B136) No. 17 / 0.45 — 0.55 V [Fully closed.] From my 99 FSM but should be similar. But check to make sure the adjustment procedure chosen is for your engine/California emissions etc. You can get an FSM for your vehicle here https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.php?18087-Subaru-Factory-Service-Manuals- MSA5TCD99L94.pdf Edited October 29, 2018 by Mike104

Mike104
I think its either on the passenger foot well or under the dash.
3Pin
Mike, that is a fair amount of work. Wouldn't a guy just try to adjust ever so slightly and get back to working well.
Mike104
I just answered his question. By the pants method could take just as long or longer. Either way do it the way you want.
Ravenwoods
I drove it today for a bit after changing out a CV Axle and replacing the engine block heater. I personally felt it was operating normally, but I didn’t go over 35 mph.
3Pin
I suppose. I reread the procedure and doing it the right way is not that hard.
