Al Zhiemer
So I'm about to start sorting out the wiring for the L series box into my Brumby. Just wondering if anyone could save me a little time and let me know which wires are which at the 6 pin round plug please? Cheers, Al
el_freddo
Google search or check out ausubaru.com.au - Subarino did a photo and short write up on this. Hopefully it’s still floating around the webs somewhere. Cheers Bennie

el_freddo
This might help: http://ausubaru.wikidot.com/wiki:gearbox-conversions I'll see what I can dig up. Subarino says he’s got the original image he created... somewhere. Cheers Bennie
Al Zhiemer
Thanks Bennie. That link has at least given me which switch's are what and I can trace it back from there and adapt it to suit from there. Once again, thanks for your help Bennie
el_freddo
No worries. I know the 4wd light is activated from the 4wd lever, so no need to change that! Cheers Bennie
Al Zhiemer
Unfortunately at the moment my instrument cluster is non 4WD and doesn't have the lights. Main concern at this stage is to get reverse lights and I'll work the rest out later. I found a thread over on AUSubaru referring to this but there is no image/link visible :-( Thanks bud Edited December 29, 2018 by Al Zhiemer
sparkyboy
You have the carb model correct? But I think my 86 GL has an 8 pin plug for the engine harness. Does yours have a green wire with a yellow stripe I think? I believe that is the wire for the tachometer but that is all I can recall at the moment. I have an 85 xt sevice manual, and they came with carby so I'll look in there for you. Mine isn't hooked up right now due to an engine swap and the car is at my parents house at the moment. As far as reverse lights go, after I swapped my engine I had no reverse lights. It was no biggie for me, but the gf (who I initially did the ej22 swap for) wanted them back so the search began. For me, the little plug on the top of the trans was disconnected and all I had to do was connect them again.
jono
While my box was out I pulled those switches out to test and adjusted one with an extra washer on installed when I found was not working in place. The MY body side connector reverse is green/white and green/ white - no typo! Lo range dash light is blue/ red. Earth is black wite Edited December 29, 2018 by jono

Al Zhiemer
Thanks guys, think I've got it sorted this morning. I was having a few electrical gremlins before swapping the box over so I think today is dedicated to sorting those out, which I think can mostly be put down to bad earths. Getting ready to put a dual battery system in and doing the wiring for that today as well, think I might take this opportunity to add a few more earth points and see if that helps the situation also. Not sure what you are meaning about the red 626 Jono? But if you are looking for a 626 to get the center bearing mounts out of, I can have a look for you next time I'm out there. They're currently shut until the 07/01/19 so it won't be until after that. Cheers guys, Al

Al Zhiemer
God Damn It!!! Spent the better part of the day trying to figure out why I no longer had low or high beams working, yet they would flash if you pulled back on the combination switch. Cut out the remote central locking kit, thinking I may have wired something wrong in there, all to no avail. Spot lights worked, fog lights worked, everything worked bar the headlights. Had me absolutely stuffed what was going on. Swapped over all of the relays I could find, checked power everywhere, it just didn't make sense, nothing I did seem to make any difference. Turn the headlights on and you would have power there but no light, changed over the switch thinking it may have something to do with that, nope, still the same problem. Eventually in a last ditch effort I started tracing back all of the wiring, testing everything I could along the way, everything was perfect... Except... When I changed over to the tilt steering column, everything all plugged in and seemed to be sweet but NNOOOOOOOO... In their wisdom, there is a slight difference in the wiring at the plug from the indicator combination switch and the main loom. Didn't even think there would be an issue here, same plugs, same number of wires and at first glance, same wire combination. Swapped over to my original combination switch and all is well. I hate it when it takes so long to figure out such a simple little problem.
