Mallory Posted March 15, 2019 Share Posted March 15, 2019 I've tried everything suggested in another thread to get my heater working and nothing helped, so the next step is to replace the heater core. What will I be getting into with that project? Can I do it without tearing the whole dashboard out? Any tips or tricks to make it easier? Thanks! uniberp1 Posted March 15, 2019 Share Posted March 15, 2019 Never heard of one plugged to the point it would not produce heat. Seems much more likely it is air in they system, standard burp is elevate the front of the car and leave it running with the radiator cap off, then top off. gbhrps Posted March 16, 2019 Share Posted March 16, 2019 Mallory, I wouldn't think that a 2010 could be rusted/gunked-up enough to require pulling it out. As uniberp1 has stated, your first course of action is to follow his lead. These subie engines can be difficult to remove air in the coolant unless the front of the car is elevated to allow burping. I have pulled the complete dashes out of cars in the past, and its not fun, is very time consuming, and there are too many places where one time assembly pieces can break off locking tabs, making reassembly more difficult, and in some cases, more than a little expensive to replace. Mallory Posted March 16, 2019 Author Share Posted March 16, 2019 I tried back flushing already and it didn't help. I had another thread on this, but my problem is my heater is only producing heat on the driver's side. I've tried bleeding the air out of the system too, but I didn't try it with the front of the car raised up. That idea makes good sense, so I'll try that next. GeneralDisorder Posted March 16, 2019 Share Posted March 16, 2019 If it's producing heat on one side of the car then the core isn't the problem. It's some type of flapper door actuator problem. It's gotta be a problem with one of the step motors that controls the air doors that direct hot air. you'd really need a good diagram of the system on your car. then you could identify which door and motor would be responsible for directing air to the pass side. Could be a disconnected linkage, or could be a dead stepper motor. So glad my 98 Forester uses cables for all that. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
