99 Outback head gasket question

i have a 99 outback with a58,000 miles and just had a 60k service down has anyone had a headgasket go on this year or around this mileage i know there is a problem with headgaskets with these cars

I just had a lady come in, who had a '97 outback with blown head gaskets. Unfortunately, it is not unheard of to see an Outback '97-'99 with this problem. 2001 to current the Outbacks have been completely solid. It's a bummer of a thing to happen, but you are not the only one.

if you have the older gasket material then yes, you are more likely than newer ones. pretty sure you do...like he just said. doesn't mean it'll happen, just higher chance.

 

it's not the end of the world really. they typically give warning signs and rarely just blow up (unless you let them run out of coolant and overheat). don't let them overheat and run out of coolant and they won't leave you sit. if it starts with the symptoms just pay the $1,000 or so (or do it yourself for a couple hundred) to install the new gasket design. the newer gaskets are a better design and alleviate the issues.
