subieman Posted July 5, 2004 Share Posted July 5, 2004 I have numerous exhaust leaks on my ea81 and she backfires pretty bad too. So until I save enough money to have the exhaust system replaced I disconnected the air suction valve. It helps with the really loud bangs! I did not use the quarter trick, I just disconnected the pipe where it connects to the air filter housing and plugged it up. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ya know what's fun: as I'm coming up on a pedestrian, I'll sit on the throttle where it doesn't make too much noise and when I'm right next to them, I jab the throttle and watch them jump 3 feet in the air! My EA82 GL had a header that was rusting out, as well as the rest of the pipes, and I removed everthing from the cat back (now thats a preformance exhaust!) and it would throw flames out the back of the cat when you let off on the gas. i guess its too much oxygen entering the catilitic converter that causes the backfiring. I dont like driving a CARBED four pot and you can't find engine because of maze of vacuum lines(exagerated) why would any one in their right mind want to get rid of backfiring?
