wagons
Anybody know the thermo-switch size on the EA82 radiator? Getting a fan kit with a switch that taps into the radiator as I dont trust probes. the kit comes with a 1/8NPT switch as well as an adapter bung that goes to 3/8NPT. Are any of these sizes going to work? just want to make sure i dont blow money and order the wrong thing.
DaveT
If it's a Subaru radiator, it is a straight thread and metric. Not a pipe thread.
skishop69
Only way you're going to make it happen with an aftermarket switch in the radiator is to take an old switch, cut it down, drill it out and tap it to 1/8 NPT and that will only work if the inside of the old switch is solid. You could also find the right size metric bolt and do the same thing. That would be the way I would go.
GeneralDisorder
And hose and fitting supplier could likely source an adapter to whatever metric thread it is. Or solder in a new brass bung and just leave the old switch to plug the hole. GD
naru2
You need something like this in a smaller size https://www.amazon.com/GlowShift-Female-Sensor-Adapter-Reducer/dp/B07D7FL72N
naru2
Pretty sure this is the correct one https://www.amazon.com/GlowShift-Female-Sensor-Adapter-Reducer/dp/B00NWZZBS6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=m16+1%2F8npt+adapter&qid=1575914682&sr=8-
wagons
@naru2 thanks. I talked with glowshift and that is indeed the right one. Ordered one yesterday and now I am just doing some finishing touches on the car.

FerGloyale
Why not use a factory thermo switch? No adapter. Turns on fans at ~200 degrees. Use it to trigger a relay that powers the fans directly from battery (through fuse)
wagons
@FerGloyale i went aftermarket because my summers are 110 degrees lol. Have an adjustable controller so i can set it for 180-200 degree turn on temps.
