lmdew
Friend sent me a text. Her 98 Forester, Auto had all of these come on at the same time. It's still running: CEL ABS Battery Light Brake Light Radio and Air Stopped. I'll head over and check the Alt Monday. I think I've seen these symptoms before. Rampage
You are probably right about the alternator. Check SBF-1 80 AMP (slow blow fuse). The radio and air have their own fuses but they are fed from the SBF-1 along with a lot of other stuff. That is the fuse that blew on a WRX when the Alt was putting out over 20 volts. The car was dead when that happened. It connects the Alt to the battery.

lmdew
Old Alt not putting out even 11.5 volts. Swapped in a use Alt. 13.5 to 14.1 when the RPM is up, but 11.9 at idle. Battery and Brake light still on. It was an ALT I had sitting as a spare I have another. After Christmas, I'll swap it in. idosubaru
I assume you know, or are confident, it’s not a separating crank pulley? Youve probably seen gobs of those late 90s bad alternators, very common. Phase I EJ25 Subaru OEM remans are ~ $75.
lmdew
Crank pulley looked good. I thought about it. Thanks
1 Lucky Texan
didn't report loss of power steering so, I didn't mention crank pulley. I suppose a glazed belt could be slipping or?????
Stevo F
Make sure grounding connections are clean or add extra ground cables
lmdew
The PO did replace the HG. I'll look for the intake ground on the passenger side. Thanks
lmdew
All grounds were where they should be, clean and tight. I put in a second used Alt I had and it's charging fine. Battery and brake light off. Happy New Year! Larry
